As the 4th of July approaches we have summarized the Village Ordinance covering Fireworks below. The entire ordinance can be reviewed at Section 12-37 in the CODE OF ORDINANCES found under the Police Department Heading.
Fireworks are considered to be any combustible or explosive substance or composition prepared for the purpose of producing a visible or audible effect by detonation, combustion, explosion or burning, and any article or device actuated or operated by the use of such combustible or explosive composition, except caps or cap pistols.
1. Aerial fireworks are considered to be any device that leaves the ground by way of a combustible propulsion system. Examples include: sky rocket, bottle rocket, missile, helicopter, aerial spinner, aerial shell, or aerial parachute. This list is not all inclusive.
2. Ground fireworks are considered to be devices with less than two hundred (200) grams of pyrotechnic material, which are designed to be placed on the ground for igniting and which remain on the ground upon explosion and whose primary use is to generate colored lights, smoke and noise for amusement.
No person or business is allowed to keep, sell , trade or ignite any arial fireworks within the corporate limits of the Village of Claycomo at any time or in any place.
Possession of, use of, discharging of or igniting of ground fireworks is allowed on private property within the corporate limits of The Village of Claycomo on July 3rd and 4th annually, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and midnight.
Children under the age of sixteen (16) years of age must be supervised and accompanied by a parent/guardian.
It is unlawful to possess, use, discharge or ignite any type of fireworks upon any public property such as: village streets, sidewalks, municipal buildings, parking lots or parks.
